The Islamic Finance Project (IFP) is the continuation of the Harvard Islamic Finance Information Program (HIFIP), which was established by the Center for Middle Eastern Studies in 1995. The Eighth Harvard University Forum on Islamic Finance was held at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on April 18-20, 2008. The Forum and Pre-forum Workshop featured over 40 speakers, including the Keynote Speech delivered by Nobel Laureate Robert C. Merton, John and Natty McArthur University Professor at Harvard Business School, Forum Speech by M.Umer Chapra, an adviser to the Islamic Development Bank research arm, Islamic Research and Training Institute in Jeddah., and the banquet address by Dean Bill A Graham, Dean of Harvard Divinity School. The Forum explored the themes of innovation and authenticity in Islamic Finance and the Pre-forum Workshop was devoted to Microfinance: Towards a Sustainable Islamic Finance Model.
